Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs iPhone 6 : The early confrontation

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Though there’s not much we can say about the Galaxy Note 4, we can be certain it will an upgraded version of the Galaxy Note 3. And considering the Note 3 is an outstanding device at its current state, we can assume Samsung will take technology to another level with its most expected Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will have everything improved, featuring a 3.500 mAh battery, a Snapdragon 805 SoC with CAT6 capabilities and a speed of 2.4GHz helped along with 3GB of RAM. The device will also feature a Wacom digitizer and the S-Pen Stylus. It’s also expected from the Note 4 to ship with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. In what concerns the display, the Note 4 will have a 5.6″ inch 2560 x 1440 SUPER AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 500 PPI. Samsung promised a new Audio Chip too, whether the Galaxy Note 4 will feature a front-firing or down-firing speakers. Nothing has been confirmed yet, so we’re not sure, but we can only expect for the best sound quality. One of the greatest features is that the Note 4 will have IP 67 rating, meaning the device will be water and dust proof.

Some rumors state that the Galaxy Note 4 will use handwriting recognition to unlock, but it’s a bit different from the existing feature aboard the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3. It seems that the new system allows you to write a variety of phrases to unlock the device. But it’s cooler than that. If for instance, you write “Call Tim”, the device will unlock and it will automatically call the associated contact. What would be even cooler than the handwriting recognition and also, pretty hard to imagine, is the three sided display, probably a creative use of Samsung’s flexible OLED tech, designed so users can also read messages in a certain angle. There is no confirmation about this matter, but considering Samsung achieved many breakthroughs lately, it would be a lie to say we don’t expect the Galaxy Note 4 to be a worthy competitor for the other much expected device, Apple’s iPhone 6.

iPhone 6

Not much is known about the iPhone 6, but the internet is flooded with leeks and rumors about the next Apple sensation. We’ll have to assume that the new iPhone will be better than its predecessor, the remarkable and still-in-demand, iPhone 5S.

We can be sure that in what concerns the size, the iPhone 6 will definitely be bigger than iPhone 5S. The screen size will be 4.7 inches or 5.5 inches, if the rumors are true, there will be two devices released. The device with the 4.7 inches screen will have a resolution of 1.600×900 pixels and 386 ppi pixel density, while the 5.5 version will have a resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels and 401 ppi pixel density.

There’s not much known about the hardware of the upcoming device, the iPhone 6 could have an A8 chipset with 64 bit processor and it is expected to be energy efficient and smaller in size. Another improvement would be the RAM, while the 5S houses only 1 GB of RAM and the competitors have already increased the RAM specification up to 3 GB, this upgrade seems to be more than necessary. In what concerns the software, while iPhone 5S runs with iOS 7, the iPhone 6 is expected to run with iOS 8. iPhone 6 is also expected to house a 10 megapixel camera with a f/1.8 aperture.

When it comes to iPhones, many complaints refer to their weak batteries. So this is an area where improvement is definitely required, while the iPhone 5S has a 1,560 mAh battery, expected to give up to 10 hours of charge for regular usage, iPhone fans are hoping for a solution to this major problem.

Conclusion

As both devices will be released later this year, in August or September, we can only hope that some of the latest rumors concerning the two most expected flagships will become true. Both Samsung and Apple promise to bring something totally new and innovating to the market. The Note 4 will definitely be an outstanding device, with an amazing display, a great battery and cool new features like the handwriting recognition and the fact that it will be water and dust proof. The Korean tech giant seems fully geared up to compete with its rivals. Apple is also preparing to run for the first place. Its iPhone 6 is also very highly anticipated and promises to be an improvement of its predecessor.

With a better battery, increased RAM specifications, a better camera and running with the iOS 8, the iPhone 6 will definitely be an upgrade of the iPhone 5S. But comparing what’s known until now about these two devices, the conclusion is simply obvious. Everything Apple will improve is surpassed by Samsung’s upgrades. The Note 4 will have a better display, a better battery, which is very important, the best sound quality and new, very attractive features, and the fact that it will be water proof is definitely a bonus. In what concerns prices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will probably cost around $800, as the Note 3 costs around $600-$700, we can only estimate the price. The iPhone 6 might cost around $650 or more, but again, it’s just an estimation made by comparing its possible new features to the iPhone 5S. The Note 4 will definitely be more expensive than the iPhone 6, but if you really want the best of all things, money shouldn’t be an issue.
