E3 2014: 10 games we expect will make an appearance

With E3 2014 closing in fast I figured it would be a good idea to gather some info in preparation for the event. I was mostly interested in knowing what games will be presented at this year’s expo, whether they have been confirmed or just rumored. So after browsing the internets in search of E3 related announcements I’ve decided to compile a list for you guys.

The list includes some of the most anticipated games of the year and although only some of them were confirmed, I suspect most will be present there in one way or another. After all, E3 is one of the biggest events of the year for the gaming industry so it’s only natural to assume that companies will want to show their latest products there. Let’s take a look at 10 of the games likely to make an appearance at this year’s E3 and some of the details we know about them.

Assassin’s Creed Unity

First announced on March 21, the next title in the Assassin’s Creed series will be centered around a new protagonist that goes by the name of Arno. The game will take place in Paris during the French Revolution and will feature a new parkour mechanic. We also know that this isn’t the only Assassin’s Creed game being developed. The next installment will actually come in two parts with Unity being one of them, the other one is called Assassin’s Creed Comet. Both games are expected to be released sometime later this year on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel

As far as the story goes the third game in the franchise will take place on the moon and is set between the events of the first two titles. You will fight alongside the nefarious Handsome Jack witnessing his transformation into the villain we all came to love in Borderlands 2. The new playable characters have been announced as well: Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer and Claptrap the Fragtrap(lol). Some of the other details we know about the game include: two new weapon types, low-gravity combat, jetpacks and new vehicules. Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel will come out this Fall for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Batman Arkham Knight

So far we know that the action takes place in Gotham, after the events of Arkham City and that we finally get to ride around in the Batmobile. Aside from iconic villains like The Penguin, Two Face and Harley Quinn, Batman will also face a new adversary, the Arkham Knight. The game will be released on October 14, 2014 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Destiny

Everybody and their mothers have heard about this upcoming MMORPG/FPS by now. Destiny takes place 700 years into the future and let’s you play as one of the few surviving people of Earth, a Guardian. Bungie is developing a dynamic experience for the game and have claimed that their universe will be “alive”. Destiny’s Beta phase will begin this summer, with the full game coming on September 9, 2014 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Alien: Isolation

“In Alien: Isolation, we have taken the series back to the roots of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, the original survival horror. Our Alien is a truly terrifying creature, as intelligent as he is hostile, relentless, brutal and unstoppable. This is the Alien game fans of the series have always wanted.” –  Alistair Hope, creative lead at Creative Assembly. We haven’t seen a good, scary Alien game in a while now but a lot of people have put their faith in this one. From the footage they’ve showed it seems like it’s heading in the right direction, let’s hope we get to see more of it at E3 2014. Alien: Isolation will be released on October 7, 2014 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U.

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V consists of two parts, MGS V: Ground Zeroes and MGS V: Phantom Pain. Phantom Pain is a sequel to Ground Zeroes and takes place 9 years after the first part. The prequel looks to be more stealth oriented and will feature an open world with interesting features like realtime weather and realistic passage of time. Phantom Pain doesn’t have a released date yet but we know it is being developed for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Halo 5

Little is known about the next Halo game except that it will be released this year as an Xbox One exclusive. The trailer does reveal that Master Chief is still holding on to Cortana’s memory chip and the giant robot we’ve seen looks to be a Promethean. We can make a few speculations regarding the plot based on this but it’s probably for the best if we wait until E3 for some real info.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

The game has been in development for quite some time now and a number of details have surfaced since it’s announcement back in 2012, including the plot. “The empire of Orlais is riven by civil war; the Chantry is divided; the Templar order has broken away; the Mage circles have rebelled. Some unseen force is manipulating events, bringing about disorder and destruction. Out of this confusion emerges The Inquisition.” We also know that you’ll be playing as the leader of the Inquisition and that you can choose your race again, just like in Dragon Age: Origins. The classes are still the same: Mage, Warrior and Rogue, and you will have a total number of ten companions to choose from, with some characters from the previous games making a comeback but we don’t know which ones yet. Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released this Fall for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Tom Clancy’s The Division

Another highly anticipated title, the game lets you play as a Division agent and is set in a world devastated by a deadly disease. The Division is an open world RPG/Third-person shooter that features MMO and survival elements. An innovative feature offered by the game is the Companion App which gives an aerial view of the world map to the person using it. The app will be available on Android and iOS,  the person running it will be able to support console and PC gamers in real-time from anywhere in the world as long as they’re connected to the internet. Tom Clancy’s The Division will launch later this year for PC, MAC, PS4, Xbox One and Wii U.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The final game in the Witcher trilogy continues the exploits of Geralt of Rivia as he embarks on a personal mission, while the world order is undergoing a transformation. The third installment is much bigger than its predecessors and it’s going to have an open world with over 100 hours of gameplay. The new REDengine 3 that the game uses was designed specifically for nonlinear RPGs set in vast open-world environments. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released on February 2015 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

And there you have it, 10 of the games that we can expect to make an appearance at E3, it remains to be seen if they will be playable or not. Of course there will be many more games presented at this year’s expo and I’m sure that a few brand new titles will be revealed as well. If you would like to tell us about some of the other games you’re excited to see at the event please do so in the comments section below.
