Nokia will soon be renamed to Microsoft Mobile Oy

Last September Microsoft announced its plans of acquiring the Nokia Corporation. We’ve found out earlier that the deal also comes with a name change for the Finnish company according to a letter discovered recently by Nokiapoweruser. The letter states that the Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oy (Ltd) will become Microsoft Mobile Oy once the deal has been closed. The new company will be a Microsoft subsidiary and will serve as its mobile services division. The other important aspect revealed in the letter is that fortunately for suppliers, contracts terms and conditions will not undergo any changes. The full letter can be read below:

“Under the terms of the sale, Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia’s agreements with suppliers, customers and partners which pertain to the Devices and Services business. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change.

Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.”

Stephen Elop, who was then Nokia’s CEO hinted at the name change last October when he stated: “What we have to decide is what the brand will be. Because we have not decided what brand will be dominant for smartphones, that’s work that’s still ahead. And of course the way we’ll go through that process is to assess with consumers what they respond most positively to, what conveys the best message and the best hopes of success. Microsoft as a company, of course, has many brands: Xbox, Office, Surface and a variety of others. We have brands like Lumia. So we’ll need to decide what the next step is from a branding perspective.”
