Mortal Kombat 10 will be revealed today

Update: The name has been confirmed as being Mortal Kombat X. Also, the trailer has been revealed and can be viewed below. Will be released sometime during 2015.

Original Story:

According to Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat 10 will be revealed any time now. He is also the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series so we’ll just take his word for it. The announcement was made a few days ago in a Twitter exchange with none other than famous rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Boon stated that “On June 2nd Kombat Kontinues…” while also adding the “WHOSNEXT” hashtag. This coincides with a poster that was revealed earlier by the co-creator of the series. The image shows off a fractured spine and is accompanied by the Mortal Kombat logo, as well as the “Who’s Next?” message. The broken spinal cord is a staple in many MK games and can come as a result of the wide variety of brutal fatalities we all know and love. Boon was also seen posting a number of countdown tweets for some time now. As you might imagine the countdown ends on June 2th. We don’t know if a trailer will be revealed soon or if he just plans on giving us some details regarding the upcoming title. Fortunately, we wont have to wait long in order to find out.

An Amazon listing for Mortal Kombat 10 was also spotted not long ago, which gives us even more reasons to believe the game is coming soon. Although the image was taken down shortly after it was uploaded, MP1st managed to grab a screenshot before it was removed. According to Amazon, the next Mortal Kombat game is currently in development for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the PC. The listing also hints that MK10 will be launced sometime during 2014. Strangely enough, previous reports claimed that the game will actually be available by the end of this year. In any case, its very odd to see a PC release alongside the consoles versions.

The previous installation in the series, Mortal Kombat 9 was available for the PC only two years after it was launched on consoles. Perhaps NetherRealm now sees the benefits of releasing the game on multiple platforms at the same time. It is assumed that Mortal Kombat 10 is being developed by the very same studio, but this has not been confirmed as of yet. Regardless, we expect we’ll find out soon if this is the case. Some other important details will also surely be revealed when the game is announced a bit later. We’ll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as we learn something new so stay tuned.
