Samsung Galaxy Note 4 might feature Retina Scanner

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will presumably launch with quite a few interesting new features, or so the story goes. The Korean company has been extremely tight lipped regarding the phablet with most of the details we know coming from various leaks and rumors. The latest news however does comes from Samsung via Twitter and it reads “Security can be improved using features unique to us. That’s what we envision. What would you use?” This tweet comes accompanied by an image of a device incorporating an eye that looks like it’s being scanned, thus the assumption that they’re hinting at a Retina Scanner feature.

Now, the tweet itself doesn’t mention that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will come with this feature. However, given that the device depicted is unusually large for it to be a smartphone, we are inclined to believe that it is in fact a phablet. Furthermore, word on the street is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will come equipped with a brand new octa-core Exynos processor. Aside from making it a very potent device, this will also give it enough processing power to easily support a high number of features and run plenty of apps. Based on the image, a Retina Scanner will be among those features.

The tagline “Unlock the future” seems to suggest that one will be able to unlock the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using the scanner, similar to how you can unlock the Galaxy S5 with your fingerprint. It’s safe to assume the phablet will need a pretty good front camera in order to make use of the Retina Scanner. Rumor has it that the device will sport a 3.68 MP front shooter, which may or may not be enough. Alternatively, Samsung might choose to add a separate camera altogether to handle this security feature. We do realize that this is mostly speculation at this point, but you can’t blame us for being excited at the prospect of seeing this technology implemented on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, right?

The device will most likely be unveiled at the IFA Trade Show 2014, which takes place in Berlin during  September 5-10. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is said to feature a 5.7-inch QHD 2560 x 1440 display, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage memory, and 16MP rear-facing camera. The phablet will reportedly come in two variants, one sporting the Exynos 5433 CPU while the other will come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
