Bungie is wiping all the Destiny Beta characters

The Destiny Beta progress wont carry over into the final game after all. Bungie said in an official blog post that although there have been no major changes, the game did undergo a series of tweaks and adjustments. This means that Beta characters might feel a little broken now so they decided to wipe all of them. The company is certainly aware that this news will upset all the people who were hoping to reunite with their Guardians on September 9th when the game officially launches. However, Bungie assures everyone that this is the last time players will have to part with their characters.

“If the rest of you haven’t gathered the painful truth from the eulogy yet, our Beta characters won’t transfer to the final version of Destiny. The vaults have been cleaned out, too,” the blog post says. “Since the Beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst,” Destiny designer Tyson Green explains.

This is very bad news for everybody who invested dozens of hours in order to reach the level cap in the Beta, but there is some good news as well. First off, all the feedback Bungie gathered from the community was invaluable for improving the game. Also, the character progression was sped up for the Beta so you’ll be in for a very different experience once the game fully releases. A lot of people have complained that some of the missions were much too short, but maybe that was just for the purposes of the Beta. But if it wasn’t, hopefully Bungie was kind enough to address this concern and make some of the missions longer. The another main complaint revolves around the fact that Destiny only features one explorable location per planet. But the company promises that “Beta was water wings. Level 8 is nothing. You barely scratched the surface.” Moreover, Bungie plans on releasing plenty of new content post-launch and some of this might include new locations as well.

The bottom line is that although all the characters were wiped, creating a Guardian and leveling up will be even more enjoyable the second time around. Destiny will be released on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
