Resident Evil Revelations 2 screenshot and box art leaked online

Capcom announced earlier this month that they are working on a remastered version of the original Resident Evil, which came out back in 2002. According to a recent leak, the company seems to be working on yet another RE project in the form of a sequel to 2012’s Resident Evil Revelations. The leak reveals that something called Biohazard: Revelations 2 was spotted on Xbox.com complete with box art and a screenshot of the game. In case you are wondering about the name, Biohazard is the Japanese title for the Resident Evil series. The listing has since been removed but as it’s often the case with these things, the images already surfaced all over the place well before they were removed.

While we can’t confirm that these images are evidence of Resident Evil Revelations 2, we will say that this isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a new RE title. Sure, Capcom already made an announcement regarding the series not long ago, but that’s a remake so it doesn’t count as being a new game. Earlier this year, there were lots of rumors saying that the next installation in the franchise will not be Resident Evil 7, but rather a spin-off, “similar to Resident Evil Revelations.” This title was expected to be unveiled back at E3 2014, but since there was no mention of it at the event the rumors sort of died down afterwards. However, this new leak seems to suggest that at least some of those rumors were true after all even though the game didn’t end up being featured at E3 like it was supposed to.

“There are three returning characters. Two female and one male. Two haven’t been seen in over a decade and one has never had an “in-game” appearance. Guess away. That’s more than enough,”said a NeoGAF user back in May about the new Resident Evil game. “Regarding the one who doesn’t appear in-game, I should be a little more specific(because I’m sure someone will call me a liar for being too general). They are mentioned in games but are a background character with no “active” appearance yet. It’s not someone from the movies/comics.” Another user also added that “One thing is for sure, fans will scrutinize their screens during coming days and weeks and this is where the REVELATION will unfold .”

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 might indeed be in the works and maybe E3 just wasn’t the right time to unveil it. We’re bound to learn more about it in the coming weeks or months so stay tuned for more news and updates.
