New Google Glass Patent Spotted

Google Glass users have been rather unsatisfied with the design of the smart glasses so far, saying that the technology was far too obvious. The main concern of people spotting Google Glass users was that their privacy was being invaded by the gadget. The fact that outsiders may not realize when the device is in use leaves them suspicious about the Glass users’ activity: whether they are having their photos taken or being talked about or searched for on the internet.

After many have complained that the design of the smart glasses makes them easy to be targeted and stigmatized, Google might have come up with a solution for that. A patent has been filed by Google showing redesigned glassware that does not stray from regular eyewear. This time around, Google might be on to something, publishing a design that looks much like the en vogue glasses of our time, not like something that came out of a sci-fi flick.

First of all, the mechanism of the glasses seems to have been made smaller, hidden on the inside arms of the glasses, rather than the outside like it was on the original Google Glass model. The device has become smaller, as it appears, and much less visible to the naked eye. Of course, it will probably be noticeable at a closer look, but at least no one can see that you are a Glass user from a mile away.

The model is rumored to becarrying the XE20.1 update and will be an improved version of the original eyewear. Allegedly, with the XE20.1 update, you will be able to access a full list of your contacts and access to your Hangouts and emails, as well. A neat thing about the update is that the 20 most recent and/or used contacts can also be accessed through voice commands.

The XE20.1 updated patent from Google is just a patent so far, there is no guarantee that this product will ever be created, but our hunch is that it will and it will reap rewards. Google has been pushing Android Wear and smartwatches for the past year now, since the success of Glass was not what they had expected, since the manufacturing costs made the price skyrocket as well. Because the glasses are so expensive, they can’t really be marketed to a wide target audience, which prompts for improvement on the part of Google.

We do suppose that if this design will be implemented in a new pair of glasses, support for the tech will arise, since they do look much more wearable and friendly. Privacy concerns will still remain, even though the glasses don’t do much more than other devices, they just do it in a more straight-forward and realistic way. In any case, Glass remains a controversial piece of technology many have not even seen on the planet, but things are beginning to move upwards, so we are excited where Google will takes us in the near future.

About Egon Kilin

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
