Camelot Unchained delayed, Alpha set for next spring

Camelot Unchained’s progress is running behind schedule and the Alpha Test, initially programmed for August 2014, has now been delayed for February 2015. For those of you who don’t know what this game is all about, here’s a quick recap! Camelot Unchained is an upcoming fantasy MMORPG developed by City State Entertainment with Mark Jacobs as co-founder. You might know Mark Jacobs as the former CEO of the now defunct Mythic Entertainment, Inc. His most notable works, as lead designer, were Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Camelot Unchained was partially funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, exceeding their $2 million goal. Camelot Unchained is considered to be a spiritual successor to Mark Jacobs’ Dark Age of Camelot. The game will feature large scale PVP battles as its main gameplay focus.

The main cause for the delay was the studio’s inability to fill most of their engineering openings until May 2014. This caused a focus of their programming resources only on tech foundations of the engine, slow hiring of additional artists and asset creation. However, Mark Jacobs stated that all of their new engineers are “meeting or exceeding” expectations. Even though they haven’t made up enough lost ground, Jacobs declared that they will stay true to their “high standards” and will not disappoint the legions of committed backers.

This time around, if the Alpha Test will be delayed even further, all of Camelot Unchained’s backers will be compensated with “a combination of Founder’s Points, CSE Points and free days of subscription”. The rewards will be proportional to the amount pledged by the backers “but no matter what your tier, you will be rewarded if we are delayed again”. When everything’s checked, the game will be ready for a test-drive.
