Google Glass receives XE21.0 update

Not so long ago we were talking about Google Glass receiving a new update, and a new patent being published by the company. The patent has not yet materialized, but alas, the update, in the form of XE21.0 has been released.

Even though Google Glass is still in development, glasses are scarcely available and for a hetfy $1500 price, Google still keeps the gadget updated, which is an example of good customer support. When Google Glass will be available for the public is uncertain, but it will probably come when Google implements the new Google Glass patent design which will make the wearable device a bit more fashionable.

Today, Google released the XE21.0 update for Google Glass, enabling the inclusion of Waze information about traffic, congestion, accidents and overall automotive stats around the environment of a driver using Glass. The update also includes the availability of flight information and sport scores. Google Glass will update automatically to XE21.0, so Glass users won’t have to meddle with any instructions in order to take advantage of the new features provided within the update.

In other Google Glass news, the Explorer edition of the wearable has been made available for U.S. customers, so there will be many more people using Glass and working on its development. Also,  BioGlass, the application that can monitor your heart rate and breathing rate via Google Glass is also in development. The app’s purpose is to determine the user’s stress levels and feed the data into the user’s software. The app is still in development, but the hope is that it will be able to measure stress levels and suggest relief-options, start-up music or offer tips and tricks for stress-relief. Currently, BioGlass may be used with any wearable device that has a gyroscope, accelerometer and camera.

Anybody can have access to the Google Glass Explorer program in the U.S., which means that you can purchase the device for the hefty $1500, enjoy its features and contribute with feedback and reports to the development of the wearable. Even though Google Glass users are met with hostility by skeptics, the tech still remains one of the most advanced wearable technologies available to the public. Many see Google Glass users as incognito spies, so to speak, since viewing from the outside, you can’t tell whether a Glass user is recording your every move or not and that bothers peoples’ sense of security and privacy.

Nonetheless, Google Glass should not be booed off stage because if Google continues to support the device and customers will continue to show interest while developers continue working on upgrading the device and bringing it down to an affordable price, mighty things can be done with this technology. Much like Apple’s HealthKit which will be able to sync the information sensors placed on your iPhone or iWatch gather from your body with doctors’ records and request visits and integrate with a health service program or professional, Google Glass might be able to do the same things and more.
