Galaxy Note Edge will be limited edition

The Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 were unveiled at IFA Berlin earlier this month and pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 4 are already up, since Samsung rushed the release of the Galaxy Note 4 seeing as Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus got a record number of pre-orders in the first week they went on sale. The Galaxy Note 4 is the phablet about which many are saying that it has the best display you can find on a smartphone at the moment, whilst the Galaxy Note Edge is the single smartphone with a display on its edge.

The Galaxy Note 4 was rushed to be released the other day, but there was no additional information supplied about its brother, the Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 launch is scheduled for Friday, September 26 in Korea, and will arrive to the rest of the planned market by the end of October. The U.S. launch date is still set for October 17. When it comes to the Galaxy Note Edge, on the other hand, Samsung officials have confirmed that the Edge will be a limited edition device.

According to Samsung Electronics President D.J. Lee, they will only ship 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge and the release dates for the device will vary for each country. As usual, South Korea will be the first to get its hands on the Galaxy Note Edge at the end of October. Other markets will have to wait a bit more, though, company representative saying that some countries will only receive the Galaxy Note Edge in 2015. The company also said that they will ship about 11 million Galaxy Note 4 devices this year.

The Galaxy Note 4 will supposedly retail for $825 off-contract, and Samsung said that the Galaxy Note Edge will have an even heftier price when it gets released. We expect to see a price tag below $1000 for the off-contract Galaxy Note Edge, but we’re not sure what Samsung is thinking about with this unit. Since the Galaxy Note Edge will be a limited edition handset from Samsung, it might pack some extra features besides the curved edge display featured on the model. In consequence, if you are interested in what the Galaxy Note Edge has to offer and how helpful that hanging screen will be, you’ll probably have to save up some dough to purchase the unit.

The Galaxy Note Edge has roughly the same specs as the Galaxy Note 4, The device will be powered by a 2.7 GHz quad-core CPU, with 3 GB RAM and either 32 or 64 GB internal storage and will also feature a 16 MP rear camera with smart optical image stabilization and a 3.7 MP front camera. Connectivity-wise, the Note Edge will support LTE Cat 6 for 300 Mbps download speeds, Bluetooth 4.1, infrared, NFCs and cutting edge WiFi. All of this will be put to use via a 5.6 inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 2560*1440 resolution and 160 extra pixels on its curved edge.
