The Evil Within has staggering PC system requirements

Bethesda Softworks had a lot to share with us today. First, they released an announcement on their official blog to report that The Evil Within has “gone gold,” and afterwards they came out with a list of system requirements which almost made us fall of our seats. The game, set to launch on October 14, will make it on time in European and US stores hence the expression “gone gold.” The guys from Tango Gameworks seem to have built a hell of a game, as The Evil Within will require sky high system specs in order to run smoothly. Bethesda listed only the recommended system requirements for The Evil Within, while a minimum sys req list is not available at this time. See for yourself:

Recommended PC System Specifications:

  • 64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
    i7 with four plus cores
  • 4 GBs RAM
  • 50 GB of hard drive space*
  • GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM
  • High Speed Internet Connection
    Steam account and activation

*It’s worth noting that the 50 GB of space required is for the PC install. When the installation is complete, the game will take up ~41 GB of HDD space.

Speaking of space (and by your request), here are the install sizes for the console versions of the game.

  • Xbox One — 40 GB HDD Space
  • PlayStation 4 — 40 GB HDD Space
  • PlayStation 3 — 7 GB HDD Space
  • Xbox 360 — 7 GB

Note: The Evil Within requires a mandatory install to the Xbox 360’s HDD or a USB 2.0 (or higher) flash drive.

Apparently, high-end gaming is taking it to a whole new level, which is to be expected. Still, these specs seem a little over the top given the fact that the game will be also released on last-gen PS3 and Xbox 360. As previously outlined, developers do not have a minimum spec list, but they recommend us to run on at least 4GB of RAM if we want to stand a chance to get the game going. Naturally, optimal performance is not guaranteed for those machines who do not meet these requirements. Hopefully, those players who do meet these requirements will not be disappointed, and I don’t think they will be. The Evil Within seems to be a complete survival horror title, which will genuinely make the hair on the back of your head stand up, and will give you some memorable rushes as you will be dragged into the “deep waters” of its story. Needless to say, the game will also be available on next-gen PS4 and Xbox One. Let’s see what blows our mind next.
