LG G Pro 3 to feature an LG-made CPU

Previous rumors about LG thinking making a processor for its mobile phones had surfaced earlier this year, but we didn’t think that the company would choose the LG G Pro 3 as the first device to sport the company’s own Odin CPU.

Samsung has already seen the opportunity in manufacturing your own CPUs and has already released the Exynos CPU model you can find on one of the versions of the Galaxy Note 4. LG seems to be tagging along and the OEM has finally realized that it has the ability to build a phone almost from scratch and make it exceptional. Not that the prized LG G3 wasn’t impressive enough when it launched.

We don’t know what the Odin CPU will look like, but sources say that the CPU will be present on the new LG G Pro 3 in the first quarter of 2014. An exact release date hasn’t been disclosed, but the  G Pro 2 is asking for a successor and the timing would be appropriate. LG’s processors will be manufactured by Taiwan based foundry TSMC and have probably been in production since May 2014.

The Odin CPU  will probably be based on a big.LITTLE configuration with four core Cortex-A15 2.2GHz quad-core and 1.7GHz Cortex-A7. The LG G Pro 2 is a high-end phablet with a 5.9 inch 1080 display, Snapdragon 800, 3 GB RAM, 16 or 32 GB storage with a microSD card slot available, 13 MP rear and 2.1 MP front camera. The Odin processor will surely be featured in a successor that will improve the G Pro 2. The LG G Pro 3 coupled with the new Odin CPU will probably support 64 bit configuration, although this is debated. If it did, however, LG could involve Google and its Android L in the launch of the Odin CPU.

We expect the LG G Pro 3 and LG Odin CPU to be released early next year and we expect to see a device that will pose serious competition for the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus phablets. LG did a great job with the LG G3 and LG G Pro 2, as well, so we expect no less from the new smartphone.

About Egon Kilin

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
