Uncharted 4 designer leaks an image of next-gen Nathan Drake

Uncharted 4 designer Kurt Margenau revealed a photo of the franchise’s protagonist, Nathan Drake, depicting the character’s appearance in the game. The image was posted yesterday, as part of the celebrations for Naughty Dog’s 30 years anniversary.

As you can see in the picture below, Nathan Drake looks slightly older than in the previous Uncharted instalment. This is because the game will take place several years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Naughty Dog released a brief synopsis for the game. Apparently, Nathan Drake, who, at the beginning of Uncharted 4 is retired from being a fortune hunter, embarks on a journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a legendary pirate treasure. According to the developer, this is Drake’s greatest adventure yet, testing him both physically and emotionally, as he has to choose to make a sacrifice in order to save the ones he loves.

Earlier this year, a major change was made regarding the team that develops Uncharted 4. Amy Hennig, the series writer and Justin Richmond, the game’s creative director left Naughty Dog and joined other studios. As a consequence, the developer hired Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, the people who directed “The Last of Us” to lead the project. Considering the latter game’s success, it’s safe to assume that Naughty Dog made a good decision.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive third person action-adventure shooter game, developed by Naughty Dog. First announced in November 2013, and first teased at E3 2014, the game is slated for a 2015 release. It is the fourth game in the Uncharted franchise and the first one to be released on a next-gen console. Unfortunately, there is no news of a PlayStation 3 version, and it’s very likely that they won’t even make one. On the other hand, Sony hinted at a possible next-gen edition of Uncharted 3 earlier this year, but no official statement was released regarding the matter.
