HTC Desire Eye specs, camera and release date leaked

There has been a fair amount of hype around HTC, either because of the upcoming Double Exposure event that will supposedly introduce the HTC Eye camera mount and the HTC One M8 Eye flagship, or because of its struggling revenue situation. We had heard rumors that the Double Exposure event will feature a new HTC selfie phone, but there wasn’t enough information coming in in order to confirm that hunch.

Things have changed, and a new leaked image of the HTC Desire Eye has surfaced, thanks to @upleaks. It seems that HTC might launch the HTC Desire Eye at the Double Exposure event which is set for October 8. The HTC Desire Eye is a selfie phone, HTC’s attempt to cater to the new selfie trend that has been taking over OEMs like Oppo, Samsung and Lumia. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, Oppo N1 and its upcoming successor, the Oppo N3 as well as the Lumia 730 will all be competing against the HTC Desire Eye, or vice versa.

The HTC Desire Eye reportedly packs a dual 13 MP camera setup, much like that on the HTC One M8 Eye, but on the front. HTC will also incorporate a flash for the front facing camera, which something not many OEMs set out to do. Except Oppo, of course. The HTC Desire Eye will sport a 5.2 inch HD display, powered by a Snapdragon 801 CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz, backed by 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage and a removable 2400 mAH battery. @upleaks also mentions an IPX7 certification, which would mean that you can immerse the HTC Desire Eye in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

The HTC Desire Eye sets out to be the most impressive device in the Desire line and there are rumors flying around that the device will be accompanied by special software for that powerful seflie camera. HTC Sense 6 will also be overlaid on Android, naturally and judging by the colorful advertisement, the removable back cover and battery, we can safely assume that the HTC Desire Eye will aim to please all kinds of users with many different back covers in the fashion of the Moto X 2014.

The HTC Desire Eye seems to have a polycarbonate chassis and frame and can be categorized as a mid-range device, even though just a few months ago, you wouldn’t have called the setup on this phone mid-range at all. Both the front and rear cameras are equipped with a flash, but we don’t see the depth-sensing unit that was there on the HTC One M8 and will be there on the HTC One M8. That’s why you should take these rumors with a grain of salt and prepare for the October 8th Double Exposure event.

About Egon Kilin

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
