HTC Nexus 9 gets FFC approval, new image surfaces
Google is rumored to be working with HTC on a new tablet called Nexus 9, also known as Volantis. The device is said to launch later this month and preparations are well underway it seems. A recently spotted FCC listing reveals that Volantis has now been certified with the model number 0P82100. This is the very same number that was rumored for a long time now to belong to the Nexus 9 so evidence of its impending release is definitely pilling up. The FCC’s DTS Test Report indicates that the device will come in two variants, a 16 GB one and a 32 GB one. The report also mentions connectivity options such as Bluetooth, near field communication (NFC) and 802.11ac.
Shortly after the FCC document was discovered, even more news about the HTC Nexus 9 surfaced. A Twitter leaker who goes by the name of @upleaks uploaded an image allegedly showing the tablet earlier today. According to the leaker, the Nexus 9 will not have metallic body like previous rumors have stated. Instead, we can expect the device to be made out of matte plastic just like the Nexus 5 smartphone. @upleaks also says that a CDMA/LTE model will be making its way to the US and it will be available for purchase from Amazon. Unfortunately he didn’t mention any carriers so we’ll have to wait until Google and HTC make an official announcement regarding the Nexus 9 before we’ll know more about availability and pricing.

As for its release date, word on the street is that the HTC Nexus 9 will be announced on October 15th and launch sometime during early November. The tablet will most likely be unveiled alongside the Motorola Nexus 6, a successor to the Nexus 5 equipped with a huge 5.9-inch display. The Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 are rumored to be the first devices to run on the Android L operating system, which is also believed to launch in early November.
