Next-gen Shadow Warrior gets a release date

Shadow Warrior developer Flying Wild Hog announced the release date of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The announcement was made via the official Shadow Warrior Twitter account.

So, as you can see above, console players will be able to play this game starting October 21 or October 24, depending on the region they are from. Shadow Warrior has already been out on PC since September 26, 2013. For those who don’t know, this version of Shadow Warrior is actually a reboot of the 1997 PC classic developed by 3D Realms and published by GT Interactive and Devolver Digital (who is also in charge of the new version). The 1997 version of Shadow Warrior is a first person shooter game, developed using the Build engine, which also brought us Duke Nukem 3D. The game was also ported to Mac OS the same year it was released.

The 2013 game is a reboot of the original, still a first person shooter, but with brand new levels and updated graphics. For those wondering, the PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p resolution and 60fps, while the Xbox One will run at 900p resolution, and the same number of frames per second. Unfortunately for those seeking online experiences, Shadow Warrior only features a single player mode. Except from the main story, there will be an Arena mode, which is basically a survival level in which you have to face off against several waves of enemies in three custom environments. More over, the game will contain extra campaign content and exclusive weapons. The latter include the sledgehammer from Serious Sam 3, the katana from Hotline Miami, the ‘Zilla Enterprises Z45 katana’ and the ‘classic Shadow Warrior katana’.

All the content mentioned above is already available for PC users. Moreover, gamers who also own a copy of Saints Row IV on Steam (don’t know if this applies to console stores as well), receive the “Penetrator” weapon from the respective series. If you skipped this game when it came out, now it would be the best time for you to experience it on a next-gen console.

About Crisan Mircea

I'm a journalism graduate and an occasional gamer. As a kid I used to own a NES clone called "Terminator 2", which was hugely popular in my country. I like old school games and adventure games but I occasionaly play RPG's and Shooters as well, though I wouldn't call myself an expert at these kinds of games. When I'm not writing or playing games I prefer reading detective or fantasy novels.
