New changes in place for Destiny’s Vault of Glass boss Atheon

In last week’s news update, Bungie revealed some upcoming changes for the final clash with Atheon in the Vault of Glass raid, and further adjustments on Mythoclast’s base damage ratio; Destiny developers aiming to find a proper value that will work for both PVP and PVE. Also, the attack value for Mythoclast will be getting a bump to place it “above and beyond the other exotics,” hence making it more effective in PVE. This week’s hotfix evolves around Vault of Glass raid boss Atheon, and will implement a series of “baby bumpers” to prevent Atheon from being kicked out of the environment. “Knocking a boss off a ledge is a bug. We will seek to address bugs like these as quickly as possible,” the official post reads.

This “bumper” fix was received with a sigh of relief among Destiny players, although the upcoming changes in Atheon’s target selection were not so welcomed by members of the community. “The encounter goal for Atheon is to act as a climax and the culmination of learning for a given Raid group. Part of that is making sure that each player in your group can perform every job as required. A change will take effect next week which fixes a bug with Atheon’s target selection. When using its Timestream ability, Atheon will select 3 players at random, instead of choosing the three players furthest from it.” The subject was widely debated in the Destiny crowd, and the main concern was that this change would dismantle a team’s strategy plan to defeat the boss, resulting in a clash that will turn out as an “utter chaos.”

“The Atheon teleport change will break not only our strategy, but most successful teams’ strategies,” community member Fragmented Hero stated. “Not everyone plays the same role in a team – if we could all perform the same roles, we’d be interchangeable. We are using legitimate strategy there, Bungie.” Another hot topic in this upcoming update is the Vex Mythoclast efficacy in PVE, which was nerfed too extensively by Bungie, and will be getting a fix soon. “Our nerf was intended to target PvP play – where we felt and heard that Mythoclast was over-performing – but it also reduced its effectiveness in PvE,” Deej Dague wrote. “Our PvE nerf was stronger than we intended and we are going to fix it.” Check out the full notes here.
