Samsung Galaxy Note 4 scheduled to upgrade to Android Lollipop

Samsung has traditionally lagged behind when it comes to updates, but the manufacturer might be looking to break this tradition with Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company recently went on Twitter and teased the latest version of the operating system for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The tweet doesn’t actually say that Android Lollipop is coming to the phablet, but it shows a picture of the Galaxy Note 4 with a wallpaper that features lollipops and other candy. Sounds like that’s what they’re suggesting to me. In any case, the Korean tech giant didn’t mention a release date or any other details, but Samsung did took advantage of the opportunity to remind us about the Galaxy Note 4’s “sweet” display (pun most likely intended).

“Anyway you look at it, the Galaxy Note 4 Quad HD Super AMOLED display is pretty sweet,” the tweet reads. The device has one of the best smartphone screens ever so that statement is pretty accurate. Samsung’s latest oversized handset comes equipped with a 5.7-inch panel complete with 1440 x 2560 resolution and a grand total of 515 pixels per inch. It’s unlikely that Android Lollipop will be able to make the display even better, but the operating system has plenty of other benefits that are certain to make Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owners eager to see it on their device.

It’s great to see Samsung trying to keep up with the other manufacturers for once, but I’m curious to see which other devices the company plans to upgrade. Aside from the Galaxy Note 4, we’re likely to see the update on the Galaxy S5, S4, Note 3 and Alpha at some point. Samsung’s Google Play Edition devices will naturally also upgrade to Android Lollipop and actually the update will arrive to them sooner than on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. These devices include the Nexus 4 GPE, Nexus 5 GPE, Nexus 7 GPE (both the 2012 and 2013 variants) and Nexus 10 GPE.
