Nvidia works its magic on Assassin’s Creed: Unity with exclusive GameWorks features

Ubisoft is going full throttle on the last quarter mile to the finish line, teaming up with Nvidia for their soon to be unveiled Assassin’s Creed: Unity  a title that has shocked everyone with its ridiculous PC system requirements. While the GTX 680 is set as minimum and the GTX 780 as recommended, it was quite predictable that the game will showcase some guillotine sharp graphics that will feed off Nvidia’s powerful GPUs. On that note, Nvidia has prepared a series of high-end GameWorks features for Assassin’s Creed: Unity to spoil those seasoned Nvidia gamers that will surely recognize and appreciate the pinpoint graphics detail the game will employ.

Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion, or HBAO+ for short, is one of the main Nvidia GameWorks features which will add richer and more complex shadows around the objects that will prevent light from passing through. Players will be able to enjoy a staggering level of shadow quality which most likely will not make the transition to AMD Radeon graphics cards or next-gen consoles powered by the AMD Jaguar GPU. Recently leaked footage of Assassin’s Creed: Unity console gameplay indicates static, pre-baked lighting which is inferior to what the PC version has in store, as it is predicted that we will see real-time shadow casting for Ubisoft’s revolutionary title. TXAA is another notable GameWorks feature to be implemented in the game; a post-process antialiasing technique that will ensure a more fluent and cleaner image. The final piece in Unity’s PC graphics arsenal is the Percentage Closer Soft Shadows feature or PCSS, a fresh off the oven high-end technique which basically makes the shadows softer the further away they are from the casting object. Take a closer look below:

While this looks quite impressive, AMD PC players will surely enjoy different types of fancy graphics techniques that will make Assassin’s Creed: Unity shine in a unique way. The game is set to launch on November 11th in North America and November 13th in Europe on PC, Xbox One and PS4. What do you think of Ubisoft’s partnership with Nvidia for the Unity title? Will the GameWorks features make a big difference?
