Resident Evil Revelations 2 ESRB rating reveals Barry Burton

The ESRB has recently published its rating on publisher Capcom’s latest entry in the Resident Evil series – Resident Evil Revelations 2 – and while warnings of blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language aren’t anything new to said franchise, the addition of a playable “father searching for his daughter” is quite intriguing, as it more than likely references veteran Barry Burton looking for his daughter Moira, whom is another playable character in-game.

The ESRB rating reads as follows – “This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the roles of an imprisoned woman and a father searching for his daughter on an island. Players use pistols, machine guns, rocket launchers, shotguns, and knives to kill zombies and mutated creatures. Combat is highlighted by screams of pain, realistic gunfire, and large blood-splatter effects. A handful of enemies are depicted with exposed organs, and one scene depicts an enemy having its hand cut off in slow-motion. Another scene depicts a human character shooting herself in the head with a pistol, resulting in a large splatter of blood. The words ‘f**k’ and ‘sh*t’ appear in the dialogue.”

Resident Evil Revelations 2 stars not one protagonist, but two. Claire Redfield has been confirmed as the game’s lead, but she will also be joined throughout the campaign by Moira Burton. As a result, the story-driven mode can be enjoyed as a single-player experience – with Moira being controlled by the A.I. – or in a two-player co-op fashion. Just like in the first Resident Evil games, each heroine has its own perks – Claire is more combat-focused, while Moira will be supplying her with health herbs, provide the flashlight, and general support. Because of this, only Claire’s death results in a ‘Game Over’ status. In contrast to the first Revelations’ nautical setting, Resident Evil Revelations 2 takes place in an abandoned island’s detention facility.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 launches on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
