Team Newbee manages to win the IeSF World Championship

The 6th annual IeSF World Championship concluded earlier today with Newbee taking home the title. The Chinese team faced off in the final against a team comprised out of some of the best Dota 2 players from Romania and managed to defeat them with a clean 3-0. While the outcome of the whole championship isn’t a surprise to anyone, Newbee actually struggled quite a bit against Team Ro and even lost a match to them in the group stages. Thanks to that match, the Romanian team placed 2nd in their group and went on to the playoffs where they faced ClickStorm against whom they won 2-1. Team Ro then defeated Georgia 2-0 in the semi-final and made their way to the final where the champions of the Dota 2 TI4 were waiting for them.

On the other side of the bracket, Newbee faced tougher opponents in the form of MVP.Phoenix(2-1) and Finland(2-0) before making their way to the final. Team Ro and Newbee played a best of three series with plenty of back and fourth across all three games. Games one and two in particular proved to be very difficult to win for the Chinese team as the Romanians always seemed to be one step ahead. Newbee eventually managed to overcome them towards the late game however and went on to claim the title after defeating them one more time in the third game.

Although the final was definitely pretty exciting to watch, the encounter between the two teams in the group stages was really something else. The Romanians went with a surprise Meepo pack and completely took Newbee off guard, which is something that certainly doesn’t happen every day. Playing Meepo was none other than w33ha who currently has the best solo MMR in Europe and second best in the world. w33ha may very well be one of the best Meepo players judging by his downright epic micro that was crucial in wining that game. Unfortunately for them, Newbee came out on top in the final but good effort nevertheless. As for the third place team, Finland managed to grab it after a 2-0 win against Georgia.
