Nintendo eShop Update for November 27, 2014

The Nintendo eShop Update is published by Nintendo every Thursday for their Wii U and 3DS systems . This update includes full digital titles, Virtual Console releases and smaller indie titles. It can be a lot and while you could read the full text on Nintendo’s press site, we thought you would prefer to get the gist of the update along with some recommendations on what to keep an eye on.

Nintendo eShop on Wii U

Thomas Was Alone – This cute little platformer has you controlling various rectangles each with their own personality. The platforming is relatively simple with some challenging puzzles at the end but the music and very unique story about these sentient shapes is what really draws you in. Danny Wallace, a british comedian and writer, does narration, and who doesn’t enjoy a good british voiceover?

Virtual Console on Wii U

Mario Pinball Land – This was a Game Boy Advance title first released in 2004. Simply put, you play various Mario themed pinball tables and Mario himself is the rolling ball you send about destroying enemies and unlock power ups. You can also use different characters and items as the pinball though if you feel bad about beating Mario around mercilessly.

Mighty Final Fight – This NES title has a strange history. Final Fight was a popular arcade game released in 1989. A port of the game was released for the SNES or Super Famicom in 1990 for Japan and 1991 in North America. Then in 1993 Capcom publishes Mighty Final Fight for the NES! This version features less detailed graphics and a chibi art style. Now it is available for both Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS

Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth – Clearly the standout of this week, Persona Q combines the gameplay of Etrian Odyssey with the characters of both Persona 3 and 4. Personally I played and loved Persona 4 Golden but never touched 3. However, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to pick this game up as soon as I can, purely due to the chance to see Persona 4’s cast again. It has gotten praise from critics and sits at an 87 on Metacritic.

Mighty Gunvolt DLC – This game is only $3.99 with the DLC being $2.99. The game is heavily inspired by MegaMan. In fact the game features Beck from Mighty No.9, a MegaMan game in spirit and developed by Keiji Inafune. You can also get Mighty Gunvolt free by purchasing Azure Striker Gunvolt. The DLC itself adds four new stages and new bosses, including two from unreleased Mighty No.9 and No.7. Mr. Happiness from Galgun and Elise from Gunvolt also appear as the other two bosses.

Sales!

Rock Zombie ($5.99)
ZaciSa’s Last Stand ($1.49)
Code of Princess ($14.99)
Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars ($24.99)
Azure Striker Gunvolt ($9.99)
Farming Simulator 3D ($4.99)
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies ($14.99)
Shin Magami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked ($14.99)

Lastly there is a sale going on for select Nintendo games for a limited time. You can find the full list on their Holiday Gift Guide site that has flashy graphics. The pick for this week is Persona Q all the way, with that Mighty Gunvolt DLC as second. Of course, you could just continue to play Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire or Super Smash Bros for Wii U.
