PS4 sold more than 15 million units already

Did you thought that Microsoft is finally catching up with Sony in terms of sales? I sure did, after the Redmond-based company announced not too long ago that it managed to ship more than 10 million Xbox One units. However, it seems that Sony is still leading by quite a bit as the latest figures have revealed that the company already sold more than 15 million PS4 consoles to date. Interestingly, about 1 million consoles were sold just in the last week believe it or not. This might be due to all the premature Black Friday deals that have been floating around for some time now. Seeing as how Black Friday just arrived today and the deals will continue at least throughout the weekend, we can safely assume that the PS4 sales will keep rising even higher over the next couple of days.

Sony celebrated the first anniversary of the PS4 earlier this month on the 15th and it goes without saying that the strong sales are a great present for the company. Aside from selling a truck load of consoles, the company also sold more than 50 million games at retail until now according to VGChartz. Game sales have been particularly strong lately thanks to all the new releases like GTA 5 next gen, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The best selling title for the PS4 in the week ending on November 22 was unsurprisingly GTA 5, followed by Far Cry 4, and Dragon Age: Inquisition. The overall best selling game in the week however was neither of those as that title was reserved by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS.

The PS4 has plenty going for itself at the moment and is quickly becoming the main focus of Sony following their dwindling smartphone and TV businesses. While this year has been a great one for the console, the next one is expected to be even better thanks to the release of a number of highly anticipated exclusive titles. As for the Xbox One, it’s still hanging in there pretty well all things considered and we should see some great exclusives for this console as well next year. In other words, all signs point at the fact that 2015 will be an awesome year for all gamers, regardless of their platform of choice.
