Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update rolling out for Google Play Edition devices

The Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been long overdue according to most Galaxy S4 fans and users, but finally the update has begun its rollout, albeit only to Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 units. The Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update should transform the TouchWiz-ridden UI into a more friendly, Material Design touting interface. The Galaxy S4 is the 2013 flagship from Samsung and many are saying that they would rather settle for the Galaxy S4 instead of the Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy S5 was a bit of an unsuccesful attempt from Samsung this year, fans criticizing the design and clutter that has been introduced with the device. The Galaxy S4 on the other hand, even though it’s not better than the S5, it’s a more preferable option for those who would like flagship specs that are close to current releases but can still handle most anything that is being thrown at it. The Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has begun its rollout and should already be arriving to most Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 units by now. Even though the rollout has been on-going for the past few days, you might be among those that haven’t yet received the OTA. In that case, you shouldn’t panic, because the Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is part of a slow rollout, so expect some delays.

Even though many other Google Play Edition devices have received Android 5.1 Lollipop, the Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is just that: 5.0. While that might seem disappointing to many of you, the 5.1 version of Lollipop should also rollout to your device soon enough. We’ve no idea why Google decided to send the older OTA to the Galaxy S4, as there have been no reports about the issue, but we should find out eventually. The Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update should be installed only after you’ve backed up your device and have charged your battery to at least 50%.  Aside from the Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, other Google Play Edition devices have also been receiving the OTA in the meantime, including the Moto G, HTC One M8, and One M7. Devices from carriers should start receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop early next year. In February, the latest, Google will begin rolling out Lollipop to all Android devices.

About Egon Kilin

My life-long dream has been to test out every gadget on the market! Considering the fact that I've rapidly destroyed almost every gadget I've had so far, I'm not inclined to owning something, so my ideal outcome would be to have a different gadget each month. I'm really into smartphones, wearables and tablets and I love Playstation and Xbox, I'm sure I'll beat you at your own game (after a month of training... or two)
