First Nokia Android smartphone surfaces complete with specs

The folks over at Nokia are allegedly developing on a new smartphone despite the fact that they can’t manufacture such products themselves until 2016 due to the Microsoft acquisition. The company already announced a new tablet called Nokia N1, so this is not the first device currently in the works, but it is the first phone. According to recently surfaced information, the handset will go by the name of Nokia C1 and will run on the Android operating system, just like the aforementioned tablet. It may seem a bit strange to see the Finnish company working on devices that are not powered by Windows Phone, but the truth is that Nokia expressed their desire to build Android products on multiple occasions and now it seems like they’re finally going forward with that plan.

Aside from learning about the new device, we’ve also managed to find out a few details about its specs. The Nokia C1 will apparently come equipped with a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, an Intel processor with 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, 8 MP camera on the back, and 5 MP front-facing snapper. Just like the Nokia N1, the C1 is also expected to run on the Android Lollipop operating system complete with Nokia’s Z launcher. As mentioned, the company is not allowed to manufacture their own devices and it seems like Foxconn will be manufacturing the C1 instead.

It’s worth mentioning that Nokia haven’t said anything about the smartphone, so make sure to take this with a grain of salt for now. The N1 tablet on the other hand, was indeed officially announced and scheduled to launch in early 2015. That said, it doesn’t seem too far fetched to think that a phone will soon follow as well, although it remains to be seen if Nokia C1 will be its actual name.
