PlayStation Now will soon come to Samsung Smart Tvs

PlayStation Now Arriving on Samsung TV’s in 2015

PlayStation Now is Sony’s new streaming service that lets gamers stream games over the internet. Now it seems gamers will not have to own a console in order to use the service.

Sony has just announced that they will be bringing PlayStation Now to Samsung Smart TVs. The service will be  launched as an app that can be accessed through Samsung’s Smart hub. The players will have to use a Dualshock 4 controller to control the game. PlayStation Now will support all functionality of the original games, such as trophies, the ability to play games online, and save progress on the cloud. Masayasu Ito, Executive Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment had this to say: “Since we first introduced PlayStation Now at CES 2014, our vision has been to open the world of PlayStation to the masses by offering the service on the devices they use every day. Partnering with Samsung is a key step toward realizing this vision, as we can reach a broader audience of consumers who may not own a PlayStation console to show them why gaming with PlayStation is such a unique and amazing experience.”

A Gaikai-based streaming service, PlayStation Now can stream PlayStation content to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, PlayStation TV, and now Samsung Smart TVs. While the PlayStation consoles can use their native controller, non-consoles must use a Dualshock 3 controller, though it seems Samsung’s TVs will use the Dualshock 4. The service was first announced at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show on January 7th, 2014. Since then, PlayStation Now has gone through a number of betas. Currently, the only games on the service are PlayStation 3 games. There were over 150 games to stream in the open beta of the service as of December 2014. Most of the games available on PlayStation Now can be rented in four different time-frames: 4-hour, 7-day, 30-day, 90-day.
