OnePlus One will not require an invite to buy, although only for two hours

The OnePlus One “flagship killer” smartphone will once again be available to purchase without an invite as part of a special event recently announced by its manufacturer. Although the OnePlus Two is getting closer with each passing day, most people are still having trouble acquiring the company’s current high-end smartphone. Luckily, this won’t be a problem anymore because the device will not require an invite as long as the event lasts. One the other hand, the “New year, new gear” event offers a very limited window of opportunity for people interested in buying the OnePlus One as it only lasts for a couple of hours. Granted, the company’s other similar events were just as short so this isn’t anything new.

The special event will kick off on January 20th at 7 PM EST and last until 9 PM EST in North America. If you live in Europe, the limited time window is 19:00 – 21: 00 GMT while customers in Hong Kong and Taiwan can expect to be able to buy a OnePlus One without an invite between 19:00 – 21:00 HKT. Also worth mentioning is that both the 16 GB and 64 GB variants of the smartphone will be part of the event, while the only available color seems to be black. Accessories for the OnePlus One will be freely available for purchase during the event as well. As of this writing, the event is scheduled to start in about 1 day and 14 hours according to the countdown timer posted on the official website, so you might want to prepare your wallet beforehand if you plan on purchasing the device.

As a quick reminder, the OnePlus One smartphone only costs $300 for the 16 GB model and $350 for the 64 GB variant. Aside from a ridiculously cheap price, the handset also offer a 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 resolution, Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor @ 2.5 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, 16 MP primary camera, and 3,100 mAh battery pack.
