OnePlus Two: a flagship killer to rule them all

The OnePlus Two will be the successor of the famous (or infamous) OnePlus One flagship killer and from what we are hearing from all around the web, the handset will be one hell of a competitor to major flagships coming this Spring. Now the OnePlus One owes its success to a few key factors: excellent specs, out of the ordinary software and a killer price. One downside of the handset is that you can only get it by invite most of the time, which means there are limited numbers of the handset to go around. Nonetheless, by the time the OnePlus Two is ready to be announced, the company might do away with the invite system.

The successor of the One has been confirmed by OnePlus saying that its most probably release date is around May 2015. They did estimate that it was either the second or third quarter of the year, but seeing as the company is steadily growing and expanding across the world, we might see the OnePlus Two release date pushed up. OnePlus is keeping pretty silent about what they will pack into the next flagship killer, but our sources say that we will be taken aback not because the OnePlus Two will be better than all the other flagships on the market, but because it will have the greatest bang for buck or value, if you may, out there.

With that in mind, we expect the OnePlus Two to be on par with future releases like the Galaxy S6, LG G4 and HTC One M9, but offer the same or similar performance for an extremely competitive price. The original OnePlus One was $300 and it came with specs akin to those of the LG G4, HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5, flagships with prices over $600 depending on region. With that in mind, if the phones unveiled at CES 2015 will be the year’s regular stars, the OnePlus Two will certainly become the year’s bang for buck star.

What we hope for is that by the time the team at OnePlus is ready to launch their next phone, they will have developed enough and raised enough funds in order to launch the device directly through a pre-order system, at least. To be fair, most people wouldn’t mind the invite system because it truly isn’t that hard to get your hands on an invite, but our biggest hope in case they take the same approach is to make shipping available internationally.

If you might be wondering what the OnePlus Two will come with, we have our fair share of suppositions. Wider LTE support was promised, as Carl Pei confirmed that the company will be making a North American version, a European version and an Asian version. A 5.5 inch 1080p or QHD display is most likely to surface on the OnePlus Two, seeing as there are rumors about a Mini version coming out. A 64 bit Snapdragon 810 CPU should also be on board, accompanied by Android 5.0 Lollipop and a 3,300 mAh battery unit.

No matter what Carl Pei and co put in the OnePlus Two, one thing is for sure: it will surprise us. Carl Pei repeatedly confirmed that the future smartphone would be a surprise and would impress many techies all around the world. We incline to trust the man and are hoping for the same market-bashing price point, too.
