Mighty No. 9 Gets Closer to Release
The spiritual successor to Mega Man, titled Mighty No. 9, is set to release in April of 2015 according to developer Comcept’s Mighty No 9 website. Developed by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, Mighty No. 9 is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that saw a very successful Kickerstarter campaign that soared past its initial $900,000 stretch goal and ended with over $3.8 million in support from over 67,000 backers on October 1, 2013.
The game will be released digitally in April for virtually every platform available and will come with a New Game Plus Mode, a Turbo Mode, a Boss Rush Mode, an online co-op challenge mode starring Beck and Call, the main two protagonists from Mighty No. 9, and many other additions that make Inafune’s new vision for a Mega Man type of game even better.
Mighty No. 9 resembles Mega Man in many ways. As Beck, you will have to fight your way through various stages and face off against Robot Masters, now called Mighty Numbers, at the end of each stage which will inevitably gain Beck the Mighty Number’s weapon. Beck will then be able to use the weapon to take on even greater adversaries and Beck’s outfit will completely change to resemble the Mighty Number he has defeated instead of just changing the color of his costume as seen in Mega Man. The game saw a second Kickstarter launch in July of 2014 with a stretch goal of an additional $290,000 for English voice acting, and a new stage and boss character. Many fans of the project were upset by the need for additional funds to create the game, as they thought that $3.8 Million was more than enough to create the 2D adventure. Currently at $102,129 with an additional 841 backers, the crowd funded game appears to be drawing near to a close. Inafune updated in a new video message to backers and fans that development is “pretty much finished” and that they will soon “be heading into the porting and promotional stage”.
A final sale price hasn’t been announced at this time, but if you decide to back the game it will cost you $23, which will get you a download code for a full copy of the game. The code will be for your console of choice including Ps4, Ps3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, PS Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux.
