The Order: 1886 Will Contain Brothels, and Boobies and Viscera, Oh My!

PlayStation 4 exclusive,The Order: 1886 is something of gamble for Sony. Having recently wrapped development at Irvine based studio Ready at Dawn, its early showings have elicited mixed reactions from press and fans. The most recent coverage out of  December’s PSX event was considerably more positive. However, it’s safe to say that gamers, and the press at large are still a little unsure what to make of the game. If there’s one thing you can be sure of though, it’s that “The Order: 1886” will be absolutely brutal.

Brutal, and explicit, at least if the the ESRB‘s Content Descriptors are any thing to go by. The news comes via DualShockers, who highlight the fact that the descriptor states that The Order, which is rated “M for Mature”, contains “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Content, Strong Language.” Things get considerably more graphic when you delve into the rating summary itself. Possible spoilers follow.

“Some explosives cause dismemberment; mutilated bodies, with exposed viscera, are also depicted. Cutscenes also depict intense acts of violence: a character stabbed repeatedly in the chest and throat; a character shot in the head at close range; a man chained to a tub and repeatedly dunked and punched by guards.”

We know that famed inventor, Nicola Tesla (and possibly Thomas Edison) were heavily involved in designing the powerful suite of weapons used by members of the eponymous Order. Weapons like the TS-23 Arc Gun, the Thermite Rifle, Pn83 ‘Falchion’, and more. Weapons whose grisly effects can be seen in the video embedded below. It appears Ready at Dawn are not intent on shying away from the more gruesome effects of high powered, retro-futuristic weaponry on the human body.

The Order: 1886’s ESRB rating also gives us an idea of what to expect with regard to the depiction of sex and nudity in the game. It states that “During the course of the game, players can visit a brothel that depicts prostitutes with exposed breasts. One brothel sequence depicts a topless woman gyrating on top of a man—the sex act is partially obscured.”

No need to worry about double standards though, as the ESRB promises “a fleeting depiction of male genitalia in the game”. Tit for tat, I suppose? Stop groaning in the back.
