Hotline Miami 2 Gets Weird Release Date Reveal

After suffering from delays and eventually being pushed back to 2015, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number finally has an official release date. However, in keeping with the weirdness of the series, the announcement came in one of the strangest ways possible.

Yesterday, Hotline Miami 2’s official Twitter account sent out a mysterious phone number with an area code in the Miami-Dade County region.

When curious fans and followers called the number, they were greeted with a mostly unintelligible message. Listening a few times is required to understand what is being said under all the distortion. However, it seems to say: “We are 50 Blessings. Together we march m-m-m-m-m-march into the future.” After that, the message cuts off with a deep voice saying “you have reached a wrong number.” That’s probably a reference to the title of the game. One caller uploaded the audio to Vocaroo so you can take a listen yourself.

The repetition of the word “march” might indicate a March release date. Dialing extension 10 did nothing to alter the message or transfer the call. Many gamers took the “ext 10” from the tweet as the day of release. That would put Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number as coming out on March 10.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a game from Devolver Digital the sequel to 2012’s Hotline Miami. It is a difficult, bloody, crazy 2D top-down shooter/action game. It has recently been in the headlines due to controversy with the release in Australia when it was refused classification. Therefore, it cannot be sold, advertised, or demonstrated in the country. Mitch Dyer from IGN also called it the most violent game he’s ever played.

Since its announcement, details about the game have been sparse, but we should see a more official announcement and perhaps some more details on the plot and gameplay before its supposed March 10 release.
