Moto E Android 5.0.2 Lollipop soak test begins
The Motorola Moto E is next up to get the Android Lollipop update, and it seems the soak test for the software has begun. Motorola has sent out soak test invites for Motorola Moto E owners so that they would agree to test the new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop build on the budget-oriented smartphone. We’ve known for a while now that after the Moto G and Moto X (both generations) Android Lollipop update rollout is completed, the Moto E would be next, alongside the Motorola Droid Turbo and Motorola Droid Maxx. It seems that the soak test on the Motorola Droid Turbo is underway, and we can add the Motorola Moto E to that list, too.
Motorola Moto E owners in India were the first ones to receive invites for the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop soak test, which means that a global rollout isn’t far ahead in time. We can estimate that the soak test will last for about two weeks tops, which means that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop rollout should begin after that. Our sources tell us that the Motorola Droid Turbo soak test is nearing its end, so we should see the phone getting an OTA next week. Take that info with a grain of salt, though, as the information isn’t coming from Motorola itself.
The Motorola Moto E is a budget-handset that is almost as popular as the Moto G 2013 and Moto G 2014. It’s a cheaper, less capable handset, but the rollout of Android Lollipop should make the phone just a bit sweeter for users. Since this is just a soak test, we can’t confirm that the official Android Lollipop update will be rolling out soon enough, but our two-week estimate seems like the most likely development at this point. Those who are interested in soak-testing Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on the Motorola Moto E should be members of the Motorola Feedback Network and if they receive the update for testing, they should remember to keep things confidential. Even though these rules are pretty drastic and breaking them would mean exclusion from the network at least, we still expect some screenshots and information about the workings of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on the Motorola Moto E to show up soon enough. There are people in India who are already receiving the update, but we don’t know how long the window for sign-ups will be open. Still, we’re glad to see the budget handset getting the well-deserved update. Looking forward to the global rollout!
