Warhammer 40K: Regicide Pre-order Bundles Revealed

Hammerfall has announced in a press release published today that Collector’s Edition bundles of its upcoming Warhammer 40: Regicide are now available to pre-order. They each offer Warhammer 40,000-theme apparel and a game access key, but larger bundles offer posters, a Season Pass and an official certificate, among other goodies. While the pre-orders will remain on sale at a discounted price for over a week, a release date has still to be announced.

The limited Collector’s Edition bundles of the Warhammer 40,000 spin on chess will offer players a digital key that’ll grant them in-development access to the PC title when it releases, possibly suggesting that the game may not be fully complete when launched a la an Early Access game. In addition the access key, the bundles will also include physical items, such as T-shirts, hoodies and a set of “high quality art prints of iconic characters from the game.” Plus, the limited edition apparel is designed by Stefan Kopinski, an acclaimed Warhammer 40,000 artist, according to the press release.

The special Collector’s Edition bundles will apparently only be available at a reduced price for a short period of time. At the time of writing, gamers have just under nine days and 15 hours left at the time of writing, according to the countdown timer displayed on the official Warhammer 40K: Regicide store. There are 10 bundles in total to choose from, which can be split amongst five tiers of worth. The lowest tier offers a game key and a limited edition T-shirt, while the highest tier offers posters, an official Warhammer 40K: Regicide certificate, access to the forums and a forum-specific goodie, a Season Pass for the game, and a secured place in the game’s credits in addition to apparel and a key code. Prices currently range from $33.20 to $96.67, although the price tag for each bundle is currently reduced. Warhammer 40K: Regicide is promised to feature a rich narrative that describes “a perilous conflict between Space Marines and vile alien Orks,” The title shakes up the typical game of chess with “dynamic gameplay features,” and it’s implied in the press release that “pieces” (either weapons, armour and / or equipment) can be powered up over the course of the game, suggesting the possible inclusion of a progression system and / or temporary power-ups. Beating the game campaign will also unlock “new challenges, powers and elite units” along the way, according to the About section on the game’s website. Warhammer 40K: Regicide is also touted to feature a highly advanced AI thanks to its Codex AI game engine, and will include both singleplayer and multiplayer.

The game’s campaign stars the Blood Angels Chapter, and follows a written story “by an original Warhammer 40,000 author,” who was unnamed in the press release. Incidentally, the information provide in the product overview of one of the Collector’s Edition bundles suggests that multiple established Black Library authors will collaborate with Hammerfall in producing future content. Gamers won’t only be able to play the game on PC, but they’ll also be able to engage in cross-platform multiplayer across tablets and smartphones. Additional Warhammer 40,000 races are also promised to be included.
