House Cup Hearthstone Tournament Returns in March

Viagame, the digital eSports branch of the Swedish media company MTG, has announced in a press release today that it’ll be returning to Stockholm, Sweden this year to host the second House Cup Hearthstone tournament in late-March. The event will see to 16 international Hearthstone players duke it out for $25,000. Eight of that number will be professional players who’ll be invited to the tournament, and the remaining eight slots will have to be competed for by other participants in open online qualifiers.

Viagame will be providing travel, food and accommodation for players taking part in the tournament, according to the press release. The tournament itself will take place on Friday, March 27th, and it’ll last until Sunday, March 29th. The whole event will be broadcasted live – in English – throughout that weekend, and can be viewed globally via Viagame’s official website and other livestreaming platforms. Although none were actually detailed, it’s probable that Twitch TV will be a likely alternative.

Two qualifiers for the House Cup Hearthstone tournament will begin at the end of the month on Saturday, February 28th and on Saturday on March 7th respectively. The top 256 players will be determined during this time by ladder ranking and achievements, the press release details. Further information on the qualifiers themselves will be shared at a later time next week. A maximum of 230 points will be awarded to competitors as well, which will help them qualify for this year’s upcoming Hearthstone World Championship.

Viagame had its first House Cup Hearthstone tournament in October last year, which was also held in Stockholm. The second House Cup is being organized in light of the success and popularity of the first one. Further information on the tournament can be found on Viagame’s website. Hearthstone has been around for less than a year (it exited Open Beta and officially launched in March last year), and already it has grown to become a prominent eSports title. Earlier on this year, competitors of the second China vs Europe Hearthstone tournament battled for a prize of €52,000, but the Chinese players could also compete for a Ferraria as the grand prize. The European players were not given a choice in the matter.
