LittleBigPlanet Vita Devs Release Teaser for New Game Hunger

The co-developers of LittleBigPlanet Vita Tarsier Studios has just released a brand new teaser trailer for their upcoming adventure game Hunger. The project was first announced at the 2014 Nordic Game Conference where Tarsier secured funding for their idea. At the time of its first appearances, it was assumed to be the unannounced Sony project that the studio had been developing since 2010. While no consoles are currently attached to Hunger, it’s a safe guess to assume a Sony system- PlayStation Vita or PlayStation 4 maybe.

Hunger, the current working title for the game, is described by Tarsier Studios as a “third-person 3D action adventure game with stealth and exploration elements.” The game follows a nine-year-old girl named Six who is suddenly take from her home and brought to work in a place called The Maw. The strange and horrifying underwater resort serves the rich and powerful elite of the world, fulfilling their every whim. However, when Six finds an opportunity to escape to freedom, she finds herself on a journey through the dark land of The Maw and ends up catching “a glimpse at the corrupt heart of modern happiness.”

Looking at the trailer, it actually looks relatively similar to the style of LitteBigPlanet- Six can pull objects around and otherwise interact with her environment. Of course, the main difference is that LittleBigPlanet doesn’t feature giant freaky shadows appearing behind Sackboy or strange, knobbly hands grabbing as the character hides under a bathtub. In terms of atmosphere, it’s probably more similar to something like Double Fine’s The Cave if a little more stylized with all the shadows and lighting effects. The camera angle in Hunger, which Tarsier has termed “Dollhouse Perspective,” adds to the eerie atmosphere by making the character appear, for lack of a better phrase, like dolls.
