Looks like Finnish game developer Frozenbyte is trying some new things on the third installment of their Trine Franchise. Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power; the latest of the side scrolling, puzzle platformer series features a full 3D environment. Both Trine and Trine 2 featured 3D models, but the gameplay took place on a 2D plane.
According to Trine 3’s Steam page the first two levels of the game will be available for early access in less than a week, on April 21st. When asked “why early access?” the developing team explained that this is their first time including 3D gameplay in the Trine series, early access will provide the player feedback they need to refine the new gameplay features. The early access release will feature both online and offline co-op, although Frozenbyte has mentioned that the online co-op still features some bugs.
In Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power, our three heroes; Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief return only to come to the conclusion that they no longer want their lives dictated by a magical artifact. While attempting to return the powers that the Trine gave them, our heroes end up shattering the magical artifact. Now with only a broken Trine to guide them through their adventure; Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya have to stop an ancient evil sorcerer, and undo the damage they have created.
