Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains – New Details and Trailer

Attack on Titan has become an international phenomenon over the past few years, and it’s not hard to see why: a deep story combined with tense action and great characters has made the manga and anime series very successful. Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains is the first Attack on Titan video game to be released outside of Japan, and it will be available for Nintendo 3DS on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 via the Nintendo eShop. The download will cost $39.99.

In addition to an official launch date and price, ATLUS has released a brand new character trailer that shows off five playable characters: Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackermann, Armin Arlelt, Levi, and Sasha Braus. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are central characters in Attack on Titan, so it’s not surprising that they are appearing as playable characters in Humanity in Chains.

The trailer also shows off some of the gameplay that was first introduced in the features trailer. From both trailers, it seems that the game will be very focused on action, with attacks taking place at high speeds and frequently in mid-air. Familiar locations from the Attack on Titan series will appear in the game as well as special abilities that allow players to channel the power of the titans. Character customization will also play a role in Humanity in Chains, though it isn’t quite clear yet to what extent this will affect the story mode. The game will support the New 3DS C-Stick as well as the Circle Pad Pro accessory, and up to four players can team up locally or online for co-op play.

When you purchase Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, you will receive a free Attack on Titan theme for your 3DS. The theme will feature art and music from the game, and it looks great.

Unfortunately, the European version of the game has been delayed. Due to copyright issues, the game has been retitled Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains, replacing the English “Attack on Titan” with the original Japanese title (in rōmaji). The release date has not been confirmed, but ATLUS has assured players that they are working to get the game released in the EU as soon as possible. When the game does launch in Europe, those who download it will get the free 3DS theme just like players in the Americas, so they’re not missing out on any of the action.

If you’re not familiar with Attack on Titan, don’t worry: the first two episodes of the anime are available to watch for free on the Nintendo eShop through June 30, 2015. Whether you’re a long time fan or a newcomer to the series, Humanity in Chains looks like a lot of fun.
