Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Announced

The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series broke onto the scene in 2005 with Red Rescue Team for Game Boy Advance and Blue Rescue Team for Nintendo DS. These games were the first experience that most gamers in the West had with Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon series. For the uninitiated, Mystery Dungeon is a series of roguelike games that focus around randomly generated dungeons and turn-based combat. Based on Rogue, a dungeon-crawling game popular in the 1980s, Mystery Dungeon was Chunsoft’s first original title (the developer is now called Spike Chunsoft). The latest entry in the series was this year’s Etrian Mystery Dungeon, which we covered here on Load The Game. The last Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game was 2013’s Gates to Infinity.

Today, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that the next entry in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon will be coming to North American Nintendo 3DS systems this winter. Other than that, not many details have been given as of yet. Besides the two strikingly similar logo pictures included in this article, Nintendo had this to say:

“The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced today the upcoming release of the Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon game for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, the latest installment of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series that has sold more than 13 million units worldwide. Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon will be available in North America in winter 2015.

Players can look forward to even greater, randomly created dungeons that change each time they enter. In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, players will battle alongside Legendary and Mythical Pokémon to save the world in a sweeping tale of adventure and mystery.”
