Xbox Live Games with Gold for August

If you’ve got Xbox Live Gold, here are the games that you can get for free for the month of August, as announced by Major Nelson. Overall, it appears as though the Games with Gold games offered for the Xbox 360 are more enticing than the games offered for the Xbox One, featuring the well acclaimed Metro series.

Xbox One

For the month of August, you can get your hands on the prologue to Metal Gear Solid V. Like most other Metal Gear games, Ground Zeroes is a stealth based game. However, the main story of Ground Zeroes has often been criticized as being too short. The side missions are supposed to provide extra gameplay to compensate though.

From August 16th to September 15th, How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition will be free. The game is more or less a top down zombie game with characters that you can upgrade via leveling.

Xbox 360

From August 1st to the 15th, you can get Metro 2033. Metro 2033 is a first person shooter set in the post apocalyptic lands of Moscow. While it has some similarities to Fallout in that you have to fight both humans and mutated monsters, Metro 2033 has a stronger emphasis on realism. For example, you can’t turn people into an explosion of blood and guts, and you have to keep track of things like air filters and ammo.

On the 16th to the end of the month, you can get Metro Last Light. It is a sequel to Metro 2033, and as such features the same first person post apocalyptic gameplay. Since it is the direct sequel to 2033, with the story following the same main character, it is recommended to finish 2033 first to get caught up with the story of Last Light.
