Call of Duty: World at War is coming to Xbox One Backwards Compatibility today
Ever since the Xbox One Backwards compatibility program was announced, some of the games that people clamored for the most were titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and even though, after more than a year, those games are still lacking on the Backwards Compatibility library, as of today the 2010 gem Call of Duty: World at War will join the Xbox’s Backwards compatibility list.
Announced by Xbox’s Director of Programming Major Nelson on Twitter, CoD: World at War will be added to the Xbox One’s BC along with E4 (Every Extend Extra Extreme), Encleverment Experiment and FunTown Mahjong. With these games Backwards Compatibility now supports 257 Xbox 360 games, including critically acclaimed classics from the seventh generation of consoles such as Dark Souls, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and Red Dead Redemption. Happily, World at War joins other Call of Duty games supported by backwards compatibility, like Call of Duty 2, 3 (which came to BC five days ago), and Black Ops.
About a week ago, the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said on Twitter that interesting things would be happening to Backwards Compatibility soon, so the quick availability of popular Xbox 360 games which include Bayonetta and Call of Duty 3 makes complete sense. Not only that, but other BC games that didnt run so well on the Xbox One (like the Gears of War games and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts) have been patched and their performance is much better now, so Xbox is proving that it does have a lot of dedication going on making Backwards Compatiblity more than a token feature like it was on the Xbox 360.
Honestly, Im still waiting for my personal favorite CoD games (The Modern Warfare Trilogy), but since Modern Warfare is getting a remaster I’m not so sure it will ever be released on BC, and since Modern Warfare 2 is hugely popular I doubt Activision would give up on the opportunity on cashing on people’s nostalgia.
