Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fall short of expectations on the PS5
Square Enix recently revealed its plans to adopt a more multiformat-focused strategy following the underwhelming performance of its major PS5 console exclusives. According to Takashi Mochizuki, a Bloomberg journalist, Final Fantasy 16’s sales initially met the company’s goals. However, the game’s momentum has since dwindled, falling short of its subsequent goals. The PC version is expected to be released soon, and the publisher is optimistic that it will help revive the game’s momentum.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has also fallen short of expectations, with no information available regarding its current sales figures or how close it is to Square Enix’s goals. Foamstars, a title that was destined for an uphill battle, seems to have fallen short of the publishers’ expectations. This game was available on launch day with PS Plus and continues to receive regular updates.
It is worth mentioning that none of the games have exactly flopped; they have simply failed to meet expectations. Square Enix seems to be planning to expand the availability of its games by releasing them on multiple platforms in the future. It will be intriguing to observe the effects of this strategy. By launching on PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and PC simultaneously, the company will undoubtedly reach a larger audience. However, it is reasonable to assume that its goals will also become more ambitious as a result.
