According to a tweet from the official Star Wars UK account, the upcoming Star Wars film entitled Rogue One will arrive in United Kingdom cinemas on December 15th, one day earlier than previously announced. With 2015’s The Force Awakens, the same release date shifting happened in the United Kingdom, with the Star Wars official Facebook page announcing the film would open a day earlier in the United Kingdom.
In the United States and Canada, Rogue One will open on December 16th, but in specific European countries, according to Empire, like Sweden and Belgium, Rogue One will open even earlier than in the United Kingdom, on December 14th. China, however, won’t see Rogue One until January 2017.
Rogue One is Disney’s first stand-alone Star Wars Anthology film, directed by Gareth Edwards (who helmed 2014’s Godzilla) and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Alan Tudyk. The newest entry in the Star Wars franchise was written by Chris Weitz, of Golden Compass and Twilight: New Moon fame, and Tony Gilroy, known for his work on the Bourne series.
Rogue One tells the story of a group of Rebel spies sent on a mission to steal plans for the Death Star, the Galactic Empire’s new weapon. Rogue One will be set a time after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
