Nvidia is auctioning a unique gaming PC for charity

Nvidia has teamed up with Falcon Northwest in order to create a unique high-end gaming PC that’s being auctioned on eBay as we speak. Once the auction ends, all the money will go to the Philip Scholz Memorial Foundation and will be used for charity, the foundation’s website explains. “Your donations to Phil’s Foundation will be used to provide scholarship opportunities to needs based youth and promote outdoor physical activities involving Phil’s favorite pastime, baseball.”

Philip Scholz was a 35-year-old graphic design marketer from Silicon Valley that worked for Nvidia. Scholz died back in January 20th, 2014 when he pulled another man from the train tracks at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. “As the train approached, the person did want to get out of the way,” said his wife, Emily Scholz, “but between him and Phil, something happened and they were hit.” Neither of the them managed to get out of the way in time, but the other man miraculously survived, although he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The people who knew Scholz well were not surprised that he died trying to save someone else and claimed that he was the kind of person who liked helping others even if it meant risking his own life. Nvidia co-founder Chris Malachowsky had this to say about Philip: “He was confident, aggressive, capable, I could see that without a moment’s hesitation, he’s going to act, I’m sure his knee-jerk, no hesitation to help someone else is what caused this — he goes down as a hero in my book.”
