Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds “Tactical Tacos” free DLC

Today Electronic Arts and PopCap announced that a new expansion pack for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, called the “Tactical Taco Part Pack”, will be available on July 1st.

The wacky shooter based on PopCap’s fantastic Plants vs Zombies tower defense series will be adding a new map called Jewel Junction. The sprawling, Western-themed map has a train running through the center, in addition to plenty of Easter Eggs. The new “Vanquish Confirmed” game mode is also included, which requires players to pick up a players dropped orbs in order to get credit for the kill. 8 new Special Waves and a new Challenge are also being added to Garden Ops to mix things up a bit. An 8v8 mixed game mode playlist that includes Gnome Bomb, Vanquish Confirmed, Team Vanquish, and Gardens and Graveyards multiplayer game modes is also being added to the game.

Players will also be receiving two new character variants, the Citrus Cactus, who “pelts enemies with orange wedges in a three round burst” and the Berry Shooter, whose “extra wide splash damage is balanced out by a slower rate of fire.” Both of these new variants are sponsored by Aquafina, water and flavored drink company. PopCap has also overhauled the party matchmaking system to make playing Garden Warfare with your friends easier.

PopCap has received praise for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, injecting the dull, sci-fi and military shooter market with a zany, colorful, and compelling third-person shooter which somehow manages to infuse the characters and general bizarreness of Plants vs. Zombies universe and tight, deep gameplay mechanics. The game was originally released in February for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and only recently came to PC. Both a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions are slated for this August. If you haven’t picked up this utterly chaotic and fun shooter yet, now might be the best time.
