Robert Downey Jr. rumored to star in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie

Rumors about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie keep pilling up and the latest one is quite intriguing, to say the least. Word on the street is that none other than Avengers and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. will play the role of Leonardo da Vinci in the movie. Another interesting rumor says that the film will be based, or at least revolve around the events of Assassin’s Creed 2. In the second major installment of the franchise Leonardo da Vinci plays a pretty important role as he creates new weapons for protagonist Ezio Auditore. These rumors were since removed bythe original source, but IGN managed to spot them before they were taken down.

In any case, Robert Downey Jr. seems like a pretty strange choice for the role of da Vinci or the Assassin’s Creed movie for that matter. But then again, he is a great actor who played a wide variety of roles throughout his career so why not? Another actor known for his portrayal of a superhero (or rather villain) will also star in the Assassin’s Creed movie so one more could’t hurt I guess.  The actor in question is Michael Fassbender who is perhaps best known for playing Magneto in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past. He will presumably play the leading role in the Assassin’s Creed movie and will not be departing the project any time soon despite what the rumors are saying. He also says that the movie will draw plenty of inspiration from the games, but will also feel original at the same time.

“You know, we absolutely want to respect the game,” Michael Fassbender said. “There’s so much cool stuff in the game that we’re actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can’t, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we’re definitely making a feature film, and we’re approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world. I don’t really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory — you know, I think it’s a very feasible scientific theory. I just thought, “This is so rich,” and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I’m really excited about it, and we’re working very hard to make sure that we’ve got the best and most exciting, original package.”

So we have Magneto and maybe Iron Man as well now. How do you think should also play in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie?
