EA’s latest trailer combines Battlefield with Need for Speed

Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Visceral Games have released a brand-new trailer for their upcoming “cops versus robbers” themed first person shooter title – Battlefield Hardline – which frankly looks a lot like your usual high speed chase coming from the publisher’s Need for Speed series; that is if NFS also had rocket launchers and machine guns. Regardless, this latest video introduces us to Hardline’s ‘Hotwire’ mode, which seems to focus on the cops chasing the robbers from one side of a map to the other. Check it out, below.

Battlefield Hardline’s plot revolves around Nick Mendoza, a SWAT officer who is involved in criminal activity. For the first time in the series, players can complete their objective in various different ways and paths, either silently or violently. Additionally, a new gadget called the Police Scanner can be used to find enemies, important objects and evidences, and also mark them. Battlefield Hardline features a new variety of gameplay that breaks away from the traditional Battlefield game modes. The focus of the game has been shifted to police and the “war on crime”, breaking away from the military setting that has hitherto characterized the series. As such, the main factions in Hardline are the police Special Response Units and Criminals. Players will have access to various military-grade weapons and vehicles, such as the UH-60 Blackhawk, as well as having police equipment such as tasers and handcuffs.

As mentioned above, Visceral Games had stated that the single player campaign will not be entirely linear, and that it promises to deliver a better one than the previous games. Hardline also uses the Levolution mechanic from Battlefield 4. For example, in the map ‘High Tension’, players can send a construction crane crashing into the building, ripping down debris from the central buildings in downtown, which falls down on the streets of Los Angeles. Battlefield Hardline launches sometime in March, 2015, on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
