PS4 on 1080p vs Xbox One on 900p: Screenshot comparison

The never ending console war continues, and this time in-game graphics are stressed upon. We can make our peace with the fact that this battle of who’s the king of gaming livingrooms will go on forever and in the end we won’t be able to pick out a clear winner. In my view, both PS4 and Xbox One possess that top notch gaming pedigree previously shown by their predecessors, and what it truly comes down to at the end of the day is what players personally prefer. Some people who have been gaming on Microsoft’s platform in the past, will probably remain loyal and go with the Xbox One, while those who favored Sony’s consoles over the years, might choose the PS4.

In the middle of all this debate, some graphics comparison screenshots emerged, in which the PS4 games played in 1080p resolution are showcased in contrast with those played on Xbox One in 900p. Widely viewed as the more powerful console, the PS4 has slightly more hardware power which allows it to render games more easily in 1080p resolution, but the Xbox One is perfectly capable of doing so as well. We’ve seen this in many recent titles such as Destiny, Forza Horizon 2, or Alien: Isolation, and we’ll be seeing a lot more 1080p games on the One, including the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, The Crew, Project Cars and many more. So does the 1080p resolution show a huge graphical leap compared to the 900p? After taking a look at some games that ran on native 1080p on the PS4 and 900p on the Xbox One, the difference is not that noticeable to be honest. The PS4 offers a slightly better graphics experience, but with no major visual impact. Take a look at the games compared in the screenshots below, courtesy of Reddit user, Emmerin:

Sony ICE team developers also claim that “anything above 720p isn’t necessarily a clear improvement.” In all fairness, this console war has no basis, and resolution debates are pointless in the end, as everybody has their own version of why the PS4, or Xbox One is better. Once again, it’s not about who’s the top dog of the gaming consoles, it’s about what pleases you, the player. So whether it’s the PS4 or the Xbox One, enjoy it, and put that controller to good use whatever it is you’re playing.
