Nexus 9 is official, sports an Nvidia Tegra K1 chip and runs on Android Lollipop

Today is a big day for Google as the tech giant announced both the Motorola Nexus 6 phablet as well as the Android Lollipop operating system. In addition, the company made yet another important announcement that will mostly be of interest to those who were in the market for a new premium tablet. The device in question is the Nexus 9, a brand new tablet developed by Google in collaboration with HTC. As it’s often the case these days, we’ve already heard plenty of rumors regarding the slate and most of them turned out be true. Still, it’s always good to hear about it from an official source and that’s exactly what happened earlier today.

As expected, the HTC Nexus 9 will come equipped with a 9-inch display complete with 2048 x 1536 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio. Google also announced that the Android 5.0 Lollipop device will sport a powerful Nvidia Tegra K1 processor running at 2.3 GHz with Kepler DX1 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. The Nexus 9 will also feature BoomSound stereo speakers, an 8 MP primary camera along with a 1.6 secondary shooter as well as a massive 6,700 mAh battery. Google didn’t mention¬†anything about actual battery life, but we should hear more details in the near future. The 7.9 mm thick HTC Nexus 9 will be available in black, beige and white colors and as mentioned, runs on the Android Lollipop operating system.

Google also announced an optional keyboard to go along with the Nexus 9, a feature that many users will undoubtedly find useful. The keyboard magnetically attaches to the back of the device and should make writing on the tablet a lot easier and faster. The Nexus 9 will be available to pre-order starting this Friday, October 17th and will make its way to retail on November 3rd. Pricing has not been announced yet, but we’ll likely hear all about it as we approach the release date. As for the operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop will also be available for the recently unveiled Nexus 6 as well as the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Google Play Edition devices.
