Xperia Z4 release date aka Xperia Z fourth generation leaked through Sony hack

The Sony Xperia Z4 release date is nearing, as per a handful of rumors, the handset being scheduled for an appearance in January at CES 2015. New information about the Xperia Z Fourth Generation came to light thanks (or due) to the massive Sony Entertainment hack which unveiled a ton of compromising emails. In one of the emails hacked, a Sony Xperia Z4 concept device is revealed and information about its use in the upcoming James Bond movie, Spectre came to light.

The Xperia Z4 aka the Sony Xperia Z Fourth Generation was pitched in an email to Sony Entertainment execs in a negotiation for product placement in Spectre. The hacked emails detail the negotiation process for placing the Xperia Z4 in the James Bond movie, revealing that Daniel Craig was going to take $5 million to use the phone in the movie, while Ben Whishaw was going to settle for less to show off the handset.

What’s more interesting is that the Xperia Z4 release date was revealed in the emails, stating that the new concept phone would be launched for consumers between May and November 2015. That puts our initial estimates of the Sony Xperia Z4 launch to the test, as we were almost sure that we would see the device show up early in 2015. We certainly hope the date revealed in these emails isn’t correct or that the emails are talking about a different Xperia Z Fourth Generation, the Xperia Z4 Ultra, maybe. Even so, we are glad that the handset is in the making and the concept images from the emails are looking great. Besides the phone, the emails revealed that Sony was planning to release a new wristband or fitness tracker, as well as a Sony Xperia Z4 variant, although we don’t know what kind of variant we’re talking about.

Regardless of when the Sony Xperia Z4 will be announced, the fact that such sensitive information about product placement and what kind of prices actors were asking for to handle a device in a movie was leaked to the public is alarming and shows how extensive the Sony Entertainment hack truly was. Putting that aside, check out the concept images of the Sony Xperia Z4, Z4 variant and the new Sony wristband below. Don’t they look great?
